The Forbidden City was the place where 24 emperors and their concubines lived and worked during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is also one of the largest and most intact ancient wooden structures in the world.

After the Jingnan Campaign, although Emperor Zhu Di was in Nanjing, his heart was in Beijing, so he began a series of preparations to move the capital. First, he changed Beiping Prefecture to Shuntian Prefecture to improve its administrative status; then he began to relocate people to enrich Beijing.

In the fourth year of Yongle ( 1406 ), Emperor Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty issued an edict to build the Beijing Imperial Palace and city walls based on the Nanjing Imperial Palace. The entire construction process of the Forbidden City took 11 years of preparation work, and it was not completed until the 18th year of Yongle ( 1420 ).

Fast forward to 1925. With the success of the Xinhai Revolution and the peaceful abdication of Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, the Forbidden City , a royal palace that had existed for more than 500 years, was officially renamed the " Gugong " , meaning " the old imperial palace " . On October 10 of the same year, the once strictly confined royal palace became accessible to the general public - the Palace Museum, which is what we are about to see.

Other well-known historical sites such as the Weiyang Palace of the Han Dynasty and the Daming Palace of the Tang Dynasty have disappeared in the torrent of history, leaving only ruins. Only the Forbidden City of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the antiques and treasures collected by its successive owners have been basically preserved intact.
