Guangzhou: This is one of the most developed cities in China. It is actually a thousand-year-old city with many historical sites that bear witness to the turbulent moments in Chinese history.

Humen: A city guarding the mouth of the Pearl River, it became an important town in the late Qing Dynasty because of the Opium War. Weiyuan Fort, Shajiao Fort, and the ruins of the Opium War all bear witness to that turbulent era.

Event Highlights

Museum of the Western Han Dynasty Nanyue King's Tomb

The Museum of the Nanyue King of the Western Han Dynasty is the tomb of Zhao Tuo, the second king of the Nanyue Kingdom, which was discovered in 1983. It is the largest and only Han Dynasty painted stone chamber tomb discovered in Lingnan. More than 10,000 cultural relics were unearthed in the tomb, including the " Emperor Wen's Seal " gold seal, jade horn cup, inlaid gold inscribed tiger knot, printed copper plate mold, flat glass copper plaque ornaments and other cultural relics with great historical, scientific and artistic value, which reflect the political, economic and cultural aspects of Lingnan two thousand years ago.

 

Huanghuagang 72 Martyrs' Tomb

Huanghuagang was originally named Honghuagang. After burying the martyrs, Pan Dawei thought that " red flower " was not as majestic and beautiful as " yellow flower " . Therefore, in the report on the burial of the martyrs, Honghuagang was renamed Huanghuagang. The name has been used ever since.

In 1912 , the Guangzhou Military Government allocated 100,000 yuan to build a martyrs' cemetery at the original cemetery. Sun Yat-sen personally planted green pines and wrote the four characters " Haoran Zhengqi " for the cemetery. The cemetery was expanded several times afterwards. The cemetery contains 86 martyrs whose names and deeds can be verified.

Temple of the Six Banyan Trees

Liurong Temple is an ancient temple in Guangzhou with a long history and is well-known both at home and abroad. The temple has a majestic pagoda, lush trees, and a collection of cultural relics. Many celebrities have left their footprints in history. Liurong Temple got its name because Su Dongpo wrote an inscription for the temple. It is also known as the four major Buddhist monasteries in Guangzhou, along with Guangxiao, Hualin, and Haizhuang Temples.

The Second Tomb of the Southern Han Dynasty Museum

The Southern Han Dynasty Two Tombs Museum is a museum built based on archaeological traces. It is mainly divided into three parts: " Lingnan Great Han Kingdom ", " Capital Xingwang Mansion " and " Archaeological Three Tombs " . Through archaeological discoveries and existing Southern Han cultural relics and historical sites, it comprehensively and three-dimensionally presents the history and culture of the Five Dynasties Southern Han Kingdom to the public through real objects, pictures, videos, multimedia interactions and other means.

Although it is named the " Museum of the Two Tombs of the Southern Han Dynasty " , the archaeological relics it collects are not limited to the unearthed relics from the Two Tombs of the Southern Han Dynasty, but also include archaeological discoveries in various parts of Guangzhou in recent years.

 

Former Site of Whampoa Military Academy

The former site of the Whampoa Military Academy was originally the schoolhouse of the Qing Dynasty's Army Primary School and Naval School. On June 16 , 1924 , with the help of Soviet advisers, Sun Yat-sen founded a school to train military cadres, named " KMT Army Officer School " , which was later renamed " Republic of China Army Officer School " . Because it is located on Changzhou Island in Whampoa, it is commonly known as the Whampoa Military Academy.

Weiyuan Fort

Weiyuan Fort is located at the foot of Beiwu Mountain in Chuanbiyang, the outlet of the Pearl River in China, in the middle of the rock on the beach in front of Nanshan Fort. Together with Zhenyuan and Jingyuan Forts, it forms a "品" character, and together with Hengdang, Yong'an, and Gonggu Forts, it forms the second gateway of Humen's coastal defense during the Opium War. Iron chains and wooden stakes are tied in the water between the forts to hinder the passage of enemy ships; the firepower of the forts is intertwined to control the sea surface and form a solid position on the narrow river surface. Weiyuan Fort has a total of 40 guns. It was the place where Li Tingyu, the general of Chaozhou, and the defenders fought bloody battles in January and February 1841 , and the remains still exist.

Shajiao Fort

During the Opium War, Shajiao Fort and Dajiao Fort were the first line of defense for Humen Haikou. In the war against foreign invasion, Shajiao Fort wrote many heroic deeds and tragic stories.

The Opium War Museum

The Opium War Museum, located in Humen, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, is a special museum that combines commemoration and heritage. The Lin Zexu Opium Destruction Pool and the Humen Fort Site in the museum are national key cultural relics protection units and are historical witnesses of the Opium War period.

Yuan Chonghuan's Former Residence

Yuan Chonghuan Memorial Park is located next to Dongjiang River, overlooking pomegranate flowers, lake light and willow color, and has beautiful scenery. There are archways, Yuan Chonghuan stone statues, Yuan Dushi Temple, Yuan Chonghuan biography relief, former residence, cenotaph, Sanjie Temple and other attractions.
